Beautiful works of art made entirely by hand from various types of wood on Flores. Flores (Portuguese for flowers) is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It is an Indonesian island, located east of Sumbawa and Komodo, and west, beyond the Lowotobi Strait, of the islands of Solor, Adonara and the Solor Archipelago. To the southeast lies the island of Timor. To the south, separated by the Sumba Strait is Sumba and to the north, across the Flores Sea, is Celebes. The island, belonging to the Timor archipelago, is located between 8 degrees and 4 minutes and 8 degrees and 58 minutes south latitude and 119 degrees and 48 minutes and 123 degrees and 30 minutes east longitude. The area of Flores is 14,300 square kilometers, which is roughly equal to one third of the Netherlands. Flores is a very hilly island. From East to West, mountain ranges stretch with dead and still active volcanoes that together form part of a series of volcanoes that stretches across Sumatra, Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands.
