During yoga and meditation, mudras are used to direct prana (life force). They connect the brain and the body and can influence the flow of energy. Mudras can also stimulate endorphins, which have a painkiller effect, and they enhance awareness, focus and concentration. Each of the fingers has its own meaning and is linked to one of the elements (fire, air, space, earth and water). In short, mudras are a valuable addition to your practice! The purpose of mudras is to influence the flow of energy in the body and create a deeper connection with yourself. These hand gestures are often used during meditation, yoga and spiritual rituals. Each mudra has a specific meaning and can help focus your attention, balance energies and promote inner peace. For example, the Jnana mudra (wisdom mudra) is made by placing the tips of the thumb and index finger together and promotes concentration and knowledge.
