Singing bowl cushions made of felt are very suitable for emphasizing the resonance of the singing bowls. In addition, felt provides a stable base for the singing bowls so that they stand firm and can be played well. Felt is a non-woven textile type in which the fibers are hooked together. Felt was probably the first form of textile man made, although a prehistoric way of interweaving plant strands is also suitable. In any case, the invention of felt far preceded that of weaving and knitting. The oldest surviving remains of felt date back to around 6500 BC and were found in Asia Minor. In musical instrument making, people usually speak of 'feuter' instead of 'felt'. Feuter is mainly used in instrument construction as sound damping: mute the strings of a piano, mute the machine heads of a pipe organ, etcetera.
