Yin and yang (☯) are Chinese concepts referring to two opposing principles or forces of which all aspects of life and the universe are pervaded. The yin-yang symbol is the ancient Chinese conception of the cosmic duality, where yin femininity (earth, cold, north, humidity) symbolizes masculinity and yang (sky, heat, south, drought). But it is not merely opposites, but mostly complementary (complementary) values.
The mineral howlite is a calcium-boron-silicate-hydroxide, with the chemical formula Ca2B5SiO9 (OH) 5. Howlietkristallen are mostly black and white veined. They have a monoclinic structure. Howlite usually occurs in nodular units (solid minerals with a veined surface). The mineral is neither magnetic nor radioactive. Howlite is named after the Canadian chemist, geologist and mineralogist Henry How, who discovered the mineral in 1868 in Brookvill in Nova Scotia (Canada). Howlite is often used to decorate jewelry. Because of the porous structure, it is colored to imitate a lot of other minerals. This is primarily done to mimic the much more expensive turquoise. It is then given the name turqueniet.
